DIY Confetti Popper

image

Just like glitter, confetti is always a good thing, and it’s always the right time for it…just saying.

So I scoured the Internet looking for a good DIY Confetti Popper and I came to the site of Parties for Pennies. The tutorial looked easy, the video made me tell myself I could do this… and so I did, and then I had to make some changes. But in the end, my cupkeiki and I loved loved loved every test pop we did, until clean up around say the fifth time and then we were kind of wishing we had a robot or magical unicorn powers to make the mess clean itself up!

What our brains look like on craft. We are addicted to it.

So here’s what we used:
1 Toilet paper roll (hooray for recycling!)
A bunch of hand made confetti
Pretty paper, cut to fit around the paper roll
Glue (craft and hot)
Scissors
A lid from a Life Water or Gatorade bottle (thats what I had and what fit inside the paper roll
A bamboo skewer (but something g thicker and stronger would have been better)
Tissue paper (we ditched this in the end)
Patience (harder for kids than adults…sort of)

What we did:
Cut our fancy paper to the size and length of the paper roll, meaning it wrapped around  nicely and glued it in place

Then we glued the skewer onto the lid with hot glue, like in the picture below

Then we added some tissue paper to one end of the tube

Buuuutttt it didn’t pop right, so I wound up cutting it away and leaving the end open.

But it looked cute!

Next up was adding the confetti, the best part in our book!!

So we put the confetti into the tube, placed the pusher in and….and…nothing happened when we pushed.

At one point I added a second ring of toilet paper roll around the lid, but we couldn’t push up, so off it went…

Finally, I decided to cut the tissue paper off the top, add a ring of hot glue around the bottom of the tube, load the pusher from the top, then the confetti and try again…and..and…it worked!!! It’s not perfect but it gets the job done! I suggest checking out Parties for Pennies post: http://http://partiesforpennies.com/2013/07/confetti-popper/

Party time!!
