Waiting

In the darkness, illuminated by a night light,

In the silence, made noisy from the steady stream of passing cars,

I wait patiently.

I’m waiting for a jolt of the day drifting away,

Waiting for the quietness of soft snores and steady breath,

Waiting patiently and then smiling as I know you’re off to the land of nod,

Off on an adventure only your wild imagination could create,

And I close my eyes and I listen and I wait.
