Marbled Clay Ring Dish

IMG_9686.JPG

I’ve been obsessing over this diy from A Beautiful Mess, as I think every other DIYer has. If you haven’t seen the tutorial, check it out here: http://www.abeautifulmess.com/2014/11/marbled-clay-ring-dish.html

Right, so now on to what I did:
1st: made two large ropes of white clay.
2nd: made four smaller ropes of colored clay (maroon, metallic grey, black and light purple)
3rd: Twisted all the colors together, rolled out twisted pieces into a longer rope, folded it in half and twisted again. I repeated this step three times.
4th: rolled clay into a ball. Using a glass jar I rolled out clay to 1/4″ thickness, used a small ramekin to cut a straight edge, laid clay into a slightly larger ramekin and baked at 275F for 15 min. Allowed to cool before taking out. Once cooled and out of ramekin I used a gold paint pen along the edge. Allowed to dry and coated with the Sculpey gloss coat!
I used the leftover clay from cutting the edge to piece together the wishbone.

This is such a great project and gift idea, and your own cupkeiki’s will have fun with it too, my cupkeiki did! The color possibilities are endless, as are the sizes/widths of the clay colors used!
